This is sonic material for my lessons

  • 1. Play the first soundfile through a portable device, such as a mobile phone. Walk around your house. Put the phone under the table, close to a wall, far away from a window, in the bathroom etcetera. Listen for how the environment responds to these clicks. If possible, ask a flatmate or friend to walk around with this sound and listen with your eyes closed. (based on Alvin Lucier’s Vespers)
1 click per second
  • 2. Play the second soundfile through preferably one loudspeaker. If you use your hifi system, use the panning knob or unplug one of the speakers, so you are sure to have monosound. If you do not have any loudspeakers, use your mobile phone or your computer loudspeaker (mobile phone is better). Leave the loudspeaker on one spot and walk around in your apartment. Go far away from the loudspeaker, in different rooms. Walk slowly and listen carefully. (based on La Monte Young and Marian Zazeela’s Dream House)
